Happy Friday!
Tonight, I'll be throwing down at the Lorwyn Eclipsed Prerelease. I'm hoping to be able to play Golgari Elves, a graveyard synergy deck in LE Limited, but obviously I'll play to whatever bombs and removal I'm able to scrape up.
If you're heading to prerelease, keep the following stats in mind regarding the breakdown of Lorwyn Eclipsed as a set:
23 flying
8 tramplers
4 vigilance
4 menace
4 deathtouch
2 first strike
2 double strike
7 lifelink
47 creature removal
10 artifact removal
11 enchantment removal
5 nonland removal
8 exile
5 counterspells
30 draw spells
With that out of the way, let's dive into the card for this week: Maralen, Fae Ascendant
Maralen speaks to me because of her theft focus, but I find it interesting how she's able to bridge two creature types in a way that is fun in Limited and Standard alike. If you're able to play against Elves or Fairies, Maralen helps you get more card advantage by stealing your opponents pieces. But even if your opponents want nothing to do with the fae, Maralen is able to steal bombs and key pieces from our opponent. Even if we only get a land, that's one land our opponents can't use. Theft isn't just about getting resources, but denying them.
I'm hoping to grab a copy of Maralen over the weekend, but do you have cards you're excited to see? Send me your faves and I'll cover them in an upcoming Friday review! I'll see you on Monday for a set review for Lorwyn Eclipsed.
