Card Review 8-1-2025

New Cards + Post Schedule Changes

Edge of Eternities is out, and it’s been a lot of fun! I was able to pick up a booster box and have been playing with the new set on Arena. Today, I want to review two cards: one that I’m thinking of for a Commander Deck and the other I’ve been using on Arena.

Tannuk is a very exciting commander. Mono-red is the only mono-color deck that I haven’t built, and the reason I think Tannuk will be my first is a classic one: dragons.

Tannuk unlocks two key things for Dragon decks: haste and lower costs. This allows my big, bulky fliers to come out swinging. What’s more, some dragons have great “enters” effects. Here are some fun examples, in order of appeal:

In a Tannuk deck, Ganax takes the role of Birgi, allowing you to make mana for every dragon that enters.

Is Terror of the Peaks $30 minimum? Yes. But is it an auto-include in most dragon decks? Also yes.

A dragon that lets me goad two creatures if I warp it with Tannuk? Yes please.

The next card I want to talk about is my current favorite Arena build-around: Cosmogrand Zenith.

Cosmogrand Zenith is reminiscent of Cori-Steel Cutter. It triggers off second spells, it makes creatures, and it makes creatures stronger. But it’s clear that the Design team at WOTC thought twice about this, and instead of providing a flood of prowess tokens, Cosmogrand Zenith provides an interesting strategic choice with every second spell. I highly recommend giving it a shot, and maybe even grabbing a copy for your white weenie decks in Standard or Commander, because this card is $12 and I predict it will only go up.

Last but not least: thank you so much for being patient with my posting schedule! Before my Monday hiatus, I posted every Monday and Friday. I am thinking of returning to a similar schedule, with posts continuing every Friday, but instead of every Monday, doing every other Monday. Let me know what you think at [email protected].

PS. If you were curious about what I’ve been up to, I started a political blog where I plan to host tools that I build for running campaigns. I also created and playtested my own TTRPG system called Arbitrage, which is still changing at the last playtest. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, I can post about it on this blog. Just let me know what you want to see!
