War… War never changes… But in Magic… It does change the board state.
This week, we’ve got a card that goes nuclear for review: Megaton’s Fate
Megaton’s Fate is a great sorcery boardwipe, and I want to posit it as a viable alternative to ye olde Blasphemous Act. I keep seeing Blasphemous Act over and over in games that have red. Maybe it’s just my meta, but I think that Blas Act makes an appearance on many Commander Gameplay shows as well. That’s because it’s, ya know, good. But is it the best option? Is it always the most interesting?
Megaton’s Fate offers an interesting alternative because of its modality. Ever since I built my Riku of Many Paths, I realized how powerful it is to have two or three cards in one. I also love the rad counters that allow you to scramble cards that return to the third from the top (like the Zombie Gods from War of the Spark [AND THE HOG.])
There are 249 Red cards with the Sweeper tag on Scryfall. Yet Blasphemous Act is in 33% of the decks that can run it.
Make it make sense! Here are some more Blasphemous Act alternatives that cost less than a dollar. Let me know what you think:
