This Friday, I'm excited about the upcoming Final Fantasy set. Namely, there are two lands I think you should prepare to go to town on (because they’re towns).
Starting Town is already $9, in part because it’s replacing 5 of the fast lands that are getting kicked out of rotation in September. But it’s also just a solid copy of City of Brass, arguably better because you are paying life instead of just getting dealt damage by City of Brass’s triggered ability. There are plenty of cards that trigger from paying life, and Starting Town could be a great enabler for those effects.
There are a couple “Adventure Towns”, or towns that also have an adventure stapled onto them. These lands are great not only because they can be cast from the grave with flashback (you can see this great explanation from keepingitcasualmtg), but they synergize with the “technically-not-prowess” effects that are found on many Final Fantasy cards.
But of all the adventure lands, I think Lindblum is the best. Not only does it allow you to make one of these pseudo-prowess payoffs, but Lindblum is the only adventure land with an instant!
