I talked a lot about the Jund precon last week, so this week I want to show some love to the Jeskai precon from Edge of Eternities. Specifically, let’s talk about one of the newest vehicle commanders: Inspirt, Flagship Vessel.
I’ve been playing a Parhelion II deck, and it’s been a blast, so I’m interested in running the Jeskai precon I preordered with Inspirit as the commander. What I find compelling about Legendary Vehicles is their ability to dodge board wipes and other creature-specific removal at their leisure, plus the flavor of having your 99 be the crew of whatever vehicle you use.
The Inspirit feels different from the Parhelion II, though, in part because the costs to make it a crew are different. While the Parhelion II can be crewed anytime, you do have to have a creature of 4 or more power available when you need it. The Inspirit, on the other hand, can only be Stationed as a sorcery, but once you hit 8+, you’re good to go.
In classic WOTC game design, the Inspirit gives you what you need to reach 8+ by granting a +1/+1 counter on your combat phase, allowing the deck with an awesome proliferate engine face commander (Kilo, Apogee Mind) to not just tap into the Inspirit to station it, but proliferate the charge counters to get you closer to liftoff.
Kilo seems to be the perfect “pilot” for the Inspirit, so it’ll definitely go in the 99. But I’m curious to see how else I can modify the precon to make a sturdy crew, since most of the typical Vehicle pilots won’t be able to “crew” a vehicle like they might planetside.
Overall, I’m excited for this deck and will probably write a Monday article on how I made upgrades. But that’ll be another post. I will leave you with this reminder: BUY SINGLES FOR EDGE OF ETERNITIES.
Bonus content: I use Grammarly to correct typos as I go, so this fucking emoji is constantly looking at me as I write these posts.
