I love this card design and wanted to share it with you! Let’s talk about color identity and crime with Patrolling Peacemaker.

I know what you’re thinking, but remember that the rules text here is referring to your opponent’s opponent, which you are, so the Peacemaker DOES get stronger if you do something to its controller.

Patrolling Peacemaker is an artifact creature that brings the color flavor of law-bringing White to the max. Crime is a really cool mechanic introduced by OTJ that is perfect for Commander, since the multiplayer nature means that there are more targets for crimes. Boardwipes are more effective as removal (sometimes), but crime synergy rewards targeted removal + interaction. But White was left lacking when it comes to Crime, with only Omenport Vigilante giving you a reward FOR doing crime, which doesn’t feel like a very White effect. The color of justice shouldn’t be committing crimes, after all.

But Patrolling Peacemaker gets stronger as OPPONENTS commit crime. Not only is this flavorful for color identity, but it also means that there is room for negotiation. “Remove our opponent’s thing, comrade, and the peacemaker won’t come at you.” Smart players will be able to grow the Peacemaker not just by watching crimes happen, but by organizing them. Maybe this means White could get target switching someday… I jest… Unless? 👀
