Today, I want to talk about another card from the Jeskai Edge of Eternities Commander precon that I love: Emry, Lurker of the Loch.

Emry is an elegant design from the original Eldraine set that has remained a consistent pillar of Artifact reanimation decks. I think Emry is one of the starting points for WOTC design, where the Commander cares about everything the deck wants to do. Emry mills artifacts into your graveyard to cast, while also being cheaper to cast the more artifacts you have, so you can repeatedly sacrifice and cast it to keep milling yourself for more artifacts.

Commanders who enable themselves are not always so open-ended as Emry. In the deck I built around her, Emry proved to facilitate a wide range of strategies. I went from wanting to focus on equipment, but kept coming back to copy effects and token strategies. I think a part of the problem is that Artifacts are also a very diverse theme. Especially since Emry’s only restriction is being able to cast the spell, so you won’t be able to play artifact lands, but this is hardly a restriction in my view. Especially when you have cards like Mycosynth Lattice or Encroaching Mycosynth.

That’s all for this week. Check out the Emry decklist and let me know what you think. I’ll see you Monday!
