Rare Financial Advice

There's a bubble

I don't believe in financial advice for magic. This is a card game. I care about cards.

But as I've been playing standard, there's one archetype that has been all over the meta: Red Prowess.

Some people will call it Izzet Prowess or Rakdos Prowess, or even Red Mice. Do not let these people fool you. Red is the dominant color in those pairings. And the card I want you to look out for is: Monstrous Rage.

This card is fluctuating in price due to its power in Standard. There are two outcomes for this card that I predict:

  1. When Final Fantasy releases, this card will see a jump in sales because of how it interacts with one of the most popular cards entering standard and commander: Vivi Ornitier.

  1. It will be banned in Standard, because of how it invalidates an entire function of the game: blocking.

There is no point in blocking a player with any red mana up. On one hand, this is very exciting, because I have a lot of fun with the card. But on the other hand, I think that Final Fantasy will reveal how awful this play pattern is and Monstrous Rage is likely the lynchpin of the red scare happening in Standard.

Either way, keep an eye out for this card to either drop or rise in price. Not very helpful, but that's why I try not to give financial advice.

We’ll be back to the Pilot series next Monday, and then I'll start doing some deck reviews of decks in my playgroup that are really fun.
